Let’s face it natural mamas… Those of us with curly, coily, or kinky hair usually end up using waaaay more product than our straight stranded sistahs. Am I right? You can thank all of those bends and twists of our coils and curls for that. It’s not necessarily a bad thing though. However, it is what it is. Even our own naturally produced oils from the scalp have a hard time making it down to the ends of our hair because of this. It’s actually one of many reasons why most of us struggle with dryness and other moisture problems.
While water is the ultimate moisturizer for kinky hair, (yes ladies… stop running away from it. Our hair needs water. It can actually crave it) we may still need a good oil to help seal in some of that moisture. In fact, choosing the proper oils for your particular hair can truly be very nourishing.
Ok, I need moisture…Now What?
So, let’s say that you have your favorite hair oil that you’ve been using for a while now and just can’t seem to understand why in the world you paid 20 something dollars for a small bottle that will only last you 2 or 3 weeks tops! Then, you realize that if you purchase each of these oils separately, you’ll be spending a lot more money than that. Plus, you honestly like the oil serum and it’s benefits.
Now, how can we possibly make that bottle of good stuff last longer than a couple of weeks?!?What can we do to make our products stretch while still being able to reap the oily benefits? Here’s a simple tip on how to take your favorite hair oil and turn it into a misting spray. Maybe it’ll work for you…or maybe it won’t. Either way, it’s worth a shot.
While my current go to hair oil, or hair serum is Young Living’s Mirah Lustrous Hair Oil, you can easily do this with your current favorite hair serum as well. If you do try out this easy DIY, let me know what you think.

What You’ll Need:
- Mirah Lustrous Hair Oil or another hair oil/serum that works well for you.
- Spray/misting bottle
- Water
Add one dropper full of the oil to the glass bottle and fill the rest with water. Shake well before each use and mist hair to desired saturation. Work through and hair and style as usual.
*This also works well as a refreshening spray to bring life and moisture back to your curls and coils in the morning or anytime throughout the day as needed.
