With kids and pets you may need to freshen up those floors from time to time. If you love for your home to smell nice, but don’t want to use chemical fragrances at the expense of your family’s health… give this DIY a try.
What You Will Need:
- Baking Soda
- 20 drops of a quality essential oil. I LOVE Thieves and Lemon together. Other good options would be Lavender, Citrus Fresh, Purification, Peppermint… honestly any of your favorite oils will do.
- Glass container with a lid that has holes. I used an old spice jar. You can even purchase them in bulk to make diy gifts for family and friends.
If you must use plastic, choose a container that is made from one of the following:
- #1 plastic – Polyethylene terephthalate (PET or PETE)
- #2 plastic High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) – Preferred
These mason jar lids are a great option. Some have even made their carpet refresher drilling holes in the lids themselves.
Combine the baking soda and essential oils and shake until evenly distributed. Shake into the carpet and let sit for at least 20 minutes. Vacuum up and enjoy a fresh smelling home!
